It's a book to read when you feel lost in the world, and in times when you're at peace with life.Angelou shares her past and her hopes for the future. She talks about her most painful moments and moments of incandescent happiness. In these stories and essays, she shares experiences from her life that have shaped her and that she has grown from, experiences she wants to pass on that others might benefit from.It's like a love letter to the world.This passage is a good summation of the general theme of this book:"When I decide to write anything, I get caught up in my insecurity despite the prior accolades. I think, uh, uh, now they will know I am a charlatan that I really cannot write and write really well. I am almost undone, then I pull out a new yellow pad and as I approach the clean page, I think of how blessed I am.The ship of my life may or may not be sailing on calm and amiable seas. About the Author

Dr. Thomas Hyslip is currently the Resident Agent in Charge of the Department of Defense, Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS), Cyber Field Office, Eastern Resident Agency. Dr. Hyslip has testified as an expert witness on computer forensics and network intrusions at numerous federal, state, and local courts. Dr. Hyslip is also a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and is currently assigned as an Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine at the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. COL Hyslip has a mix of active duty and reserve assignments spanning over 20 years including assignments with the US African Command, Office of Inspector General, the Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General, and the US Army Reserve Information Operations Command. In 2005 COL Hyslip deployed to Iraq with the 306th Military Police Battalion and earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge. Dr. Hyslip is currently an adjunct Professor at Norwich University Dr. Hyslip received his Doctor of Science degree in Information Assurance from Capitol College in 2014. Dr. Hyslip previously obtained a Master of Science degree from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarkson University.

Love it. We cut the cord and are watching free TV thanks to book. Must have for anyone wanting to review alternatives to expensive cable or satellite TV. I literally read the book, followed and his steps, and I am watching free TV!

Got some good pointers. Especially helpful because we've been tethered to cable for such a long time. Can't get around internet cable yet. We've learned option for watching most of our favorite shows.

I must have been looking for a "Dummies" type of book. I am sure it was very complete and accurate. I just needed step by step instructions for the best option. This book laid out all of the options (confusing,) and had very little step by step. I ended up not cutting the cord.

Book seems complete, but bogs down in specific models,but not explain what part does. Give us an overview of ehrtr we going first, before we get lost in the thicket.

I had been anticipating reading this book with great expectation. I’d heard the author interviewed a couple times about this book and thought he’d come up with a unique angle and thesis (a look at Dylan’s songs through the lens of a renowned Classics professor) and so was excited to read the book. The first disappointment came when I opened the package and saw how small the book is. The next disappointment came while reading the book and, finally, the most profound disappointment came after I’d finished the book. “Underwhelmed” is one word I’d use as the takeaway after reading the book. Another phrase I’d use is “opportunity wasted.”As I said, there is a unique angle here but the author failed to really dig into the songs at the level they deserve. I think the author is capable of delving deeper into the songs but for some reason didn’t. It seems as if he (or more likely his publisher) wanted a book of a certain length and perhaps there was a lot edited out in the analysis – probably thinking most readers would be bored or intimidated by all the references to Catallus, Virgil, Homer and Ovid. Whatever the reason, limiting the analysis was a big mistake in my opinion and made a mediocre book of what might have been an excellent one.The book, as is, references a limited number of Dylan songs but only so much in that these songs have – or seem to have – some overt allusion to classical texts. It’s interesting, in an academic way, to show how some of Dylan’s lyrics apparently allude to, and were inspired by classic poetry but that is what one might expect of a high school English teacher, a hip Dylan freak, turns the kids on to a class or two of his personal passion for Dylan and Catallus. But who is his audience here? Anyone interested in buying a book with this thesis, I would think, is looking for much more elucidation on the subject matter. In fact, done well, this book could have been a good 500-600 pages (and a normal sized book) and really done justice to the thesis. As it is, it feels like a teaser, like a trailer for a film. It left this reader wanting much more.I am giving 3 stars instead of 2 just for the thesis.

For Dylan fans, followers and obsessives Thomas's book is a must. He has followed the man's work and concerts for decades and is also a classics professor who introduced a Dylan studies programme as an experiment which proved (he says) very popular. This is a fairly short and very enjoyable read, mainly tracing and exploring the relevance of references to classical literature, Virgil, Ovid, Homer and others, in Dylan's lyrics. Although referencing Dylan's early work Thomas focuses mainly on his recent output, from Time Out of Mind onward. He brings us right up to date with consideration of the 'American songbook' recordings and the fascinating Nobel acceptance speech. If, like me, you are a Dylan devotee going back down the years, you will enjoy this fascinating study and learn yet more about the extraordinary mind and working methods of one of the great creative artists of our time.Dave Willow

While the subject, at first glance, may seem challenging, Prof. Thomas’ voice, both conversational and knowledgeable throughout, takes the reader on a journey of discovery, much as Dylan himself must have. Most interesting to this reader is the look at Bob Dylan now, as a living treasure, still creating and sharing his understanding of the human condition. Beginning and ending with the Nobel Prize ceremony, rather than show us Dylan’s life once again, Thomas goes deeper and shows us Dylan’s work through a series of influences. Highly recommended for any Dylan fan and any fan on intertextual literary study. I've always liked Lonely Planet but lately I feel like they're lagging. So when it came to Croatia this was a better book for me. I liked their honest point of view of the sites, how to approach it (distance, how long it takes to see it, etc), they listed the business hours and the entrance fees, and their restaurant recommendations were all spot on!! The ones in Dubrovnik were the best restaurants we could have hoped for.For the record, I bought both the Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide version, scanned / read through both of them and went with the Rough Guide one. It also has more pictures to give you more of a reference.The one thing that Rough Guides is missing is more history. For eg, it hardly have any history on Plitvice NP. So we had to find this on another source.

Really loved this book when we toured Croatia. Detailed map showed even the smaller cities and described what we could see there. Will definitely buy the Rough Guide when we travel to Spain next year.

I've read only about a third of this book, as we are traveling only part of the Dalmatian Coast [Split to Bay of Kotor] and not going up the northern Dalmatian Coast or into interior Croatia at all. But the information, insights, and history provided in what I read were excellent. The writing style is authoritative, but not authoritarian, the content is informative, but not a simple listing, and the history--both ancient and modern--seems thorough and evenhanded. The maps are also well placed in the text, and generally include all the points of interest and sights the surrounding text is designating and describing.Don't be put off by my saying I read only a third of this book. This is a big book--478 pages.Of the 8 major sections, I read 2, plus the 55 pp. introductory sections and the 25 pp. history section [that was truly excellent, the author, Jonahan Bousfeld, is writing a book on Adriatic history due out next year, and because of the clarity and succinctness of his writing, I will look for this book]. If this book were on traveling in the USA, reading the section on traveling from Washington DC to the Florida Keys to Bermuda would be comparable to reading about Split to Dubrovnik to the Bay of Kotor in a Croatia travel book. Further, as I skimmed the sections on Zagreb, northern Dalmatia, and the southern Dalmatia islands, I wished our trip was going to be 3 or 4 weeks, not 10 days.I rank this Rough Guide to Croatia [March 2016 Ed.] as one of the best travel guides I've read--and we have a 2 bookshelf's of travel guides and have given or thrown away many others. While reading this book, I also read Rick Steve's. I generally like Steve's books and find them helpful, but too often slanted to the backpacker and budget-minded traveler--but still loaded with great info and tips. This Rough Guide to Croatia is a more "literary" and provides an excellent modern historical context for all the Balkans.

Owing to the intense price hikes, a lot of the pricing info is out of date as of spring 2017. Loved the history portions, and the maps were excellent.

This book was ok but i must admit i have had better experiences with other guides. It seemed like everything that was recommend was common local places. I like being able to find more off the beaten path recommendations. No good recommendations for shopping
