From the Inside Flap

When popular market guru Larry Williams first presented his Long-Term Secrets to Short-Term Trading to the world in 1999, it was primarily to an audience of committed traders. In the years that have passed, things have changed radically and now everyone is in on the act, enjoying the thrill of the promise of a better life through successful, profitable short-term trading. Now Williams is back with a fully revised and updated edition of his bestselling book, designed to help a whole new generation of hopeful investors understand the trading markets and get the most out of them. While the stakes in short-term trading are high, the benefits to be reaped are unprecedented, and Williams outlines the blueprint necessary for sound and profitable trading, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages so that you, too, can come out on top. Presenting years of genuinely insightful market wisdom on topics ranging from speculation and volatility breakouts to profit patterns, Williams expertly explains the fundamentals of entering—and succeeding in—the trading world, including how the market moves, the most dominant cycles, when to exit a trade, and how to hold on to winning stocks. Including in-depth analysis of the most effective short-term trading strategies, as well as Williams' own proven technical indicators, the book is your one-stop resource for getting started in the short-term trading market right away.

Of all the trading books I have read over the many years, this one is the best. It's practical and chokful of good ideas. Trend analysis, money management. TDW, TDM and various setups. It tells the wanna be speculator just how hard this game is! and also the rewards that await for the person who ploughs through anyway.

In my opinion it is a very interesting book for traders and speculators. Williams knows what he is talking about and you should be a fool not to read what he has to say if you want to start risking money. I have been trading for many years and I was happy that I have read it. Most I knew, as for instance the importance of good money management and that we never know how the next trade will go. But I also learned some interesting things and it is also good to hear from an experienced trader that you learned and understood the right things. I can recommend it.

This book helps put front and center concepts, such as the importance of back testing and identifies certain input variables that in themselves lead to different outcomes. Final outcomes to profit, loss, drawdowns, turnover etc. Its not so much that i didn't already know about these variables or personally will be using this kind of complicated analysis to enter, exit and hold positions, but the ideas in themselves gained a sense of importance simply from being included in the book. Mr. Williams' writing about the concepts creates, at least for me, a motivating factor to think about their existence and application. Refer to the table of contents to see which concepts. I am half way done on the book, maybe i write a follow up review when i am done. But for now, so far so good. Its an expensive book but i would buy it again. Make sure to choose the digital edition so you can highlight sections and take notes while you read. I hope this review is helpful.

Was exactly as discribed got it quick too. 2 thumbs up

I love this book. Simple and erudite.Everything you want to know in a concise manner.I recommend the other books by the same author. Please take notes when you read this ...it has many important facts.

You should have this book rather than the MACD, RSI or Gann Theory...

This is a good book which lays out ways of thinking about markets. I dont expect him to give out systems that work for the price of a book. The section on position sizing is excellent and worth the price of the book in my opinion. Overall an excellent straightforward book that lays out interesting ways of looking at and thinking About markets.

I never have seen a more common sense analysis of market movement like what Larry describes in his first chapter.Understanding of Market Structure became the key to my trading. The rest of the book has different ideas for trading, use what you like.

Hi, as a 24 year old who has been living in New York City for the past 3 years, I found myself dealing with issues of self that I not only had never experienced, but had not even been forewarned of. 'Issues' like severe anxiety, loss of motivation and purpose, and a complete deadlock on finding any method or motivation of attaining the goals that I wanted to achieve for myself whether professionally, spiritually, physically, you name it. What I came to find out through reading this book, was that all these 'issues' came down to this one central question:What is my 'purpose' for being alive and how can I attain it?I found the lessons and experiences shared in this book to be PRICELESS! I have ran up credit card debt and time paying for classes and books, LOOKING FOR ANSWERS to questions that I felt were fundamental to my life. Thich Nhat Hanh does a miraculous job of communicating his thoughts and ideas in a way that allowed me to implement what I was reading instantly.I think the most important take-away for me was the epiphany (the MIRACLE) of learning that when I am able to be present, I automatically give myself permission to be the most authentic version of myself; I am able to instantly elevate the life that I would like to live and contagiously elevate the lives of those around me.This book has truly been a miracle for me and I am excited to read the other writings from this phenomenal man. Please give the book a try! What do you have to lose?!?!

This book literally changed my life. As a sufferer of Crohn's Disease, which is severely aggravated by negative stress, I was in desperate need of an effective form of handling life's stressors. This book did that and more. I have become more aware of myself, my surroundings, my physical, spiritual, and emotional needs, and have learned how to meet those needs. Simply reading the words even creates a calm psyche. If you're looking for self-improvement (and who isn't?), please read this book! You will be thankful that you did...

This is the book that allowed me to understand what mindfulness and meditation practices are all about. Instead of tuning out, open yourself up to that one thing you can focus on and appreciate it for what it is whether it's the sound of your breath or a drive in the country. Very practical advice. My stress has gone down considerably since working mindfulness into my life although I understand it is a lifelong practice.

With how widespread Thích Nhất Hạnh's name is in the new age world, I completely misunderstood who he was and what he taught. Hanh's Miracle of Mindfulness is a series of translated letters from 1968 -- written while exiled from Vietnam -- instructing young monks overseas on meditation. His 'mindfulness' isn't the confusing buzzword it is today, but simply a way to inch towards the Buddhist idea of enlightenment.I expected scam artistry akin to Eckhart Tolle or Deepak Chopra, not legitimate Buddhist teachings. There's still a few lines of woo-woo that don't mean anything (to me, at least), but the majority of Hanh's Buddhist ideas reject the nonsense of religious text and simply want the the reader to be self-aware: Recognize their emotions and the emotions of others; the causes of social strife and personal discomfort; the is-ness of all things. It's a straight, beautiful series of meditations to wash away one's anxieties, starting with the most basic step in meditation: Be conscious of one's breathing. Focus on the act of breathing. Focus on any act one's doing and enjoy it -- walking, doing the dishes, the laundry -- because all moments in life could and should be enjoyable. The book concludes with a useful step-by-step guide on each method of meditation without the letters' contexts -- a great reference for when one needs reminders.Hanh's writing is succinct, and makes the reader feel beautiful without asking for anything in return. Highly recommended.

As a beginning yogi, my practice of meditation has been limited, usually wishing I could hurry through that last part of the session. After reading “The Miracle of Mindfulness” I realize I’ve been blowing off maybe the best part of yoga practice. With a clearer understanding of the meaning and importance of mindfulness, I will be more self-aware and conscious of my actions and surroundings. That’s a powerful lesson to glean from a small but powerful book.

I am a huge love of Thich Nhat Hanh in general and this work, The Miracle of Mindfulness, in particular. It has been a big help to me both in my meditation practice (even as a Catholic) and in my life.Hanh's premise, appreciate the present, be alive to the moment, is not new but he offers helpful exercises to help you achieve this state. The work is informed by his own life, his suffering as a Vietnamese monk and his transformation of that suffering as an activist for peace deepens the meaning of this highly accessible work. The Miracle of Mindfulness is an inspirational, gentle, loving book that is invaluable as a support for meditation practice and a richer life generally. I especially appreciate Hanh's commitment not only to a sitting practice but to an active participation in the life of the world. I found this increased my appreciation of this work.Anyone who meditates, seeks out the spiritual dimension of life, or is searching for a greater sense of meaning to ordinary experience should absolutely read this book. It doesn't take long to read but it takes a lifetime to live out.

Great book for beginners seeking guidance on the technique of Mindfulness and also good for prodigy's who need a refresher every once in awhile. My partner has been studying Mindfulness for about 7 years now and he still thought this book was a good read. He loves everything Thich Nhat Hanh is apart of.

#271 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I minored in Psychology back in the day. So there was no really NEW information here. I got the book because my friends were raving about it. Unless you have never read anything about psychology, skip the introduction (10 pages of Psych 101). Once into the book, the discussions and revelations are eye-opening. (And makes me REALLY GLAD that I did not go to Harvard!) I definitely wish I had read this book when I was in my late 20's/early 30's - when I was finally getting into relationships both personal and in business, and needed a better understanding of the way individual personalities affect even the simplest activities. Everyone should read this, introvert or extrovert (whichever you THINK you are!) in order to better understand the way people respond to different situations. What is "natural" and "easy" for one person could be a nightmare for the other. As a boss, employee, or significant other, we all need to better understand what is going on inside each other's heads!

I believe this book saved my life. I'm not prone to melodrama, or to such excessively long reviews, but this is true, and so important to me, I have to say it. I've been working for years in an extremely busy law office. It's been growing harder and harder throughout the years for me to handle this job. Two months ago my boss fired my coworker, and I've since had to take on two people's work plus train multiple new people (as the first two didn't stay), all with constant, all day long interruptions, high-intensity demands, and a high level of multitasking. This has happened many times before, and while it was dreadful, I managed, but for some reason this time I just couldn't handle it. My entire life has been on hold since this started, I get home from work too exhausted to do anything except veg out for a couple hours and go to bed, and even weekends aren't much better. I was taking terrible care of myself and my life was falling apart. I did, in fact, feel like I was killing myself with this lifestyle, but I simply did not have the energy to fix any of it, or for that matter have any idea how to fix it.I blamed myself - there must be something `wrong with me' because I can't handle the job. I wanted to leave, but thought, if I can't handle this job, how am I going to handle a new job? It'll probably be more of the same. I thought I was just getting soft because I was getting older (I'm in my late 40s).I've always known I was introverted, but I didn't realize just what all that entailed - I thought it mostly meant `shy' or that I didn't like social settings. This book taught me more about myself than I've ever known. It read like my biography. Almost every page had a new insight into why I think and feel the way I do. Throughout the book I saw my very own self described in new and empowering ways.I learned that the job situation I'm currently in - the non-stop deadline demands, interruptions, never being able to work quietly or alone no matter how difficult a project was, phones ringing incessantly, people in my face all day long, etc. - especially when it's work that I actually don't care anything about personally - those are the exact circumstances that trip every one of a strong introvert's triggers. And I was subjecting myself to it 40 hours a week, for months. It's no wonder I was so miserable and completely exhausted all the time. And as enlightening as it was to learn how many of the traits I've beat myself up for over the years are just a product of my introverted temperament (being highly sensitive, shutting down when subjected to stimulation overload, preferring to think a thing through before I speak - something I never get to do at work, as if it takes me more than 5 seconds to say something, I get interrupted and cut off), the most important thing I got from this book is that it's okay to be myself, it's okay to feel the way I do. There is not something `wrong with me' that I have to `fix.' I am not weak or a failure because I don't feel or behave like my extremely extroverted boss (who thrives in high-energy crisis mode, and is bored unless he's doing 10 things at once - and expects the rest of us to keep up).And far from it being an age-related `going soft,' what's probably in fact going on is that as I get older, it is becoming increasingly vital to me to be truer to myself.I also found the information on the history of the "rise of the Culture of Personality" completely fascinating, it really gave me a new insight as to just exactly how we 'grew' this tendency to value extroversion over introversion. It makes so much more sense now. This book gave me the courage I needed to start taking the steps to fix my work situation. Not only the courage, but the `permission' and the understanding - because I now know there isn't something wrong with me, but instead this is what I need to do to be my best self, and stop killing myself with stress. That I probably can find a place of value in the world by being myself, not trying to force myself to be something I'm not. I know I will meet resistance from my boss (I'd love for him to read this book, but unfortunately I know he won't), and I know I won't instantly fix everything in one day, and that I'll probably always need to be able to stretch myself a bit to do things that are not ideal for me ... but this book taught me that there are ways to make that work, too, if you understand and honor the need for recharging around such tasks, instead of trying to force yourself to do them 8 hours a day with no break. It doesn't have to be all or nothing, in either direction. Basically, I'm not out of the woods yet, but I now see the path out, and I have hope.I think every introvert should read this book, because it will help you understand why you are who you are, and why that's a beautiful thing, not a character flaw. And I think everyone who knows an introvert should read this book, and quit trying to "fix us."Which means pretty much the entire country (or world) should read this book. The wealth of information and insights in this book cannot be overstated - especially if you are an introverted type of person who has always felt there was something not quite right about you, or that you somehow needed to change to fit in or succeed. This book will give you back yourself, and in my case, my life. Thank you, Susan Cain, from the bottom of my heart (which is finally beating at a more normal speed because I'm not panicked about going to work for the first time in months).Edited 11-13-14: It worked! I'm now working half-days at the office and half-days at home, and in a few weeks will transition to working from home full time. I never imagined that could happen. It's amazing what becomes possible when you finally realize you deserve what you already knew you needed.

I want to express gratitude to Ms. Cain for she has made it officially OK to be me. All my life, I've had this intangible feeling of being ‘wrong’ or ‘flawed’, or at the very least a minority in every walk of life. Only after my brother recommended this book to me do I finally feel worthy and acceptable (even, dare I say, valuable) for being an introspective person who thinks before speaking or taking action. I am not ‘weird’ or ‘shy’ or ‘anti-social’ as I have been labeled since childhood. Please forgive me for being too upfront or dramatic, but to put things in perspective I have made repeated attempts on my own life over the last 20 years and, not surprisingly, been plagued by severe, chronic, and recurrent depression and anxiety since early childhood. I believe this book has been a major turning point for me. No longer do I see myself as ‘broken’, ‘sick’, or ’hopeless’, but just an introvert in an extrovert's world. Since reading it, my mental health has improved drastically. And while I'll always have the tendency to be hard on myself, this book and its insights have allowed me to grant myself some compassion and room to breathe. Now I see my biggest ailment all along has been trying to fit into patterns of behavior which were fundamentally against my nature.A prime example from my life: I called myself weak if I had trouble working 50+ hours a week the way my peers seemed to do without problem. Then, just to meet expectations, I would force myself to go out after work with the same coworkers I had just spent all day around when what I truly wanted was time alone in order to decompress. What happened over and over again is I would push myself until I developed migraines or other physical symptoms. I ignored my body's signals, believed it was possible to deny my needs, and thought that pushing through the pain would be rewarded. No wonder I was so unhappy. If I feel like this, I know there must be others who do too.The research cited in this book show there are clear neurological differences in the way introverted brains process sensory information. Those findings told me that I truly am hard-wired this way. If the way I take in the world cannot ever be changed, then it's up to me to find the grace to say “This is just the way I am.”Today I realize I cannot change who I am at the core, but I can learn to love myself. It is also my duty to navigate through life in ways that are sustainable and healthy for me, and to disregard the ‘shoulds’ which were making me ill. We of this personality type can not only improve our own existences, but also possess the ability to make the world better and more well-rounded. Indeed, society can benefit from our unique perspective if it would only take the time to listen to our carefully-formulated and often soft-spoken contributions. So far I don't yet have a success story of how I have used this knowledge of myself to bring me from rags to riches. But I have moved away from traditional employment to more freelance work and flexible telecommuting positions. I hope that armed with this newfound self-acceptance I will eventually be able to make my introversion work for me, rather than pressuring myself to 'succeed' in spite of this trait. I guess I need to change my definition of success from financial wealth and externally recognized achievements, to one that centers around my internal balance and contentment day-to-day. I’m still a work in progress. For now, I try to do my part by reaching out to fellow introverts, recommending this book, and letting them know I find them beautiful just the way they are. And I make sure to plan alone time into my days and activities in order to maintain my mental stability. My wish for everyone who feels like an outsider is to read this book. Chances are you're just an introvert and either don't know it, or have been taught that extroversion is the only way. Once you become comfortable with yourself, the world and its possibilities will open up. Please read this book.

It doesn't matter if you're familiar or not with the extraterrestrial races in Marvel this is a very clever plot. Although the idea of a universe attempting to invade another one through war is not new, this volume focus in death and life in universal scales and as so Thanos is central. Among the characters I didn't know Cosmo and I loved it, and there is a lot of characters. The writer got the talent to don't make a disperse story. Why I am leaving four stars instead of five? I think perhaps I had already read the plot in one part of the Cast of Metabarons by Jodorowsky, and fair enough it could be they both drink from the same source. And the other point is that I really have not sympathy for the inhumans, they seem to me aristocrats without charm. If you love them then this series could be in the highest regard for you.

The Thanos Imperative had potential, but it never quite seemed to achieve it. It starts with Adam Warlock’s evil twin the Magus opening up the universe to the Cancerverse where death had been extinguished. Because no one dies there it was seeking to expand into the universe. The Guardians of the Galaxy determine that Thanos is the key to win this battle. The ending is not fulfilling, and the art is all dark and meant to be moody, but not exactly to my liking.

The other positive reviews tell you everything you need to know about this one - be sure and pick up the titles that precede it. There are big, gorgeous cosmic panels I'd happily hang on my walls - or have painted on them. I wish it were longer, but not if it would have slowed the pacing or required additional artists with jarringly different styles.

Great book! Love Thanos as a villian.Thanos reminds me in some way of Darth Vader after watching the movie. In some way you get some compasion at the end as with Darth Vader.

The great space storylines that Marvel puts out are still the best . Epic Battles with other worlds and starships on scales u could only dream of, but still small enough to have great plot twists and back stabbing. I really enjoyed this book , the heroes the villains ,the small details amongst the rich backdrop of space. The fate of the universe rides in the hands of one who worships Death.

I absolutely loved this book! Thanos was written very well, and the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Nova, sprung off the page! The story is very fleshed out and there are plenty of twists along the way to keep you on your toes.I would recommend this novel to any fan of Marvel cosmic or space epics!

The amount of backstory for this finale is staggering. I do not have all the background materials but I followed the story well enough and found an intense and nourishing story. Comics are often looked down on, but the story of Thanks and his counterparts is legendary. Maybe a bit pompous at times, but that's the style of the story.

Great read, great book. Great art. What else can I say... It has Thanos after all. Some of the text at times was not right resolution displayed on my tablet but it was easily overcome. Without out much frustration or straining of my eyes.
