Practical reading and straight to the point. Is not as interesting as rebuilt in that it doesn't read as well as a story. Very good and challenging points though. I gave it to my youth group volunteers for us to discuss.

Like the other Rebuilt books, simple yet much needed concepts to take to Catholic parish ministry. It's going to be messy, but everything that's worth doing is worth the challenge. This is required reading for parishes that don't know why their youth ministry program never seems to get anywhere.

This book was recommended to me by my pastor. I found the information to be extremely realistic, helpful, and encouraging to someone who is new into Youth Ministry. I would recommend this book to all who are involved with the youth at their parish or diocese.

I have read the other "Rebuilt " books and this one is a very good follow up of the implementation for a new approach with youth ministry.

A great book especially if you are new to Youth Ministry! Easy read and very enjoyable.

If you are involved in youth Ministry or even just have a kid that attends, you need this book and buy one for everyone in your parish too.

Awesome book. Worth every.penny.

We used these for stocking stuffers this year, and they were very well received. Our two children love to read about mummies, gods and Pharaohs, and this was perfect for them. For those of you who are not familiar with the Fandex Family Field Guides, these are basically flash cards with cool pictures and facts about various subjects: butterflies, buildings, mummies, etc. These are great for kids who are traveling, for snow days or for rainy days when your children need a little extra something to keep their attention. I also love that the kids are able to talk about what they've read, which makes for a more enriching conversation around the dinner table. :) Shipping was of course fast and easy, and we love the product. Thanks Fandex!

These are like THE BEST flash cards of mummies, gods, goddesses, the Valley of the Kings and pharaohs! The pictures are absolutely gorgeous! Each "page" is filled with fascinating information about spells, incantations, The Book of the Dead, secrets of embalming and passwords. Do you know the only vital organ to be left in the preserved body? Very interesting! It doesn't get very in-depth because there just isn't room, but this would definitely help a child with a grade school/middle school test…or a grown up on trivia night! I definitely recommend it.

As someone who has been in computers and information sciences since 1970, this was an amazing and entertaining book.I knew a lot of the history, having lived some of it, but a lot of this was new to me.Very well-researched and presented in a clear and highly readable style. This volume clearly covers the concepts and development of theories of information. It covers both theory and practice and whether you are a beginning computer programmer or an information science theorist, you should find something in here that you didn't know and that will awaken you to some new ideas.If you like this volume, try "Godel, Escher, Bach" by Douglas Hofstadter. That is an eclectic and entertaining mix of mathematics, art, and music philosophy, tying together apparently dissimilar disciplines into a mind-bending tour-de-force.

The is the first James Gleick work that I have read. I am impressed. He writes cleanly and clearly, with little "fluff" and he seems to understand what he is writing about. It surely took a lot of background work before he was ready to tie so many disparate pieces of history together. I am also impressed in that Mr Gleick seems clearly to want to get the history right and not to push his personal ideas, interpretations, morals, and politics. I am reminded of the James Burke (BBC/PBS) works as he shows how knowledge that at first seems unrelated becomes related thru the work of many men and women scattered in time and geography. This is a history, not a textbook on information theory; there is only a smattering of simple formulae and drawings.The book uses the contributions of Claude Shannon as a thread to tie everyone's work together, but this is not a biography of Claude Shannon.The final chapters are a bit weak in my opinion, especially following such solid work as the preceding chapters. One of the weak (in my opinion) chapters is devoted entirely to Wikipedia. I am enthused with Wikipedia but I don't think it is yet clear what will be a future historian's view of Wikipedia and that it deserves its own full chapter.Overall I found the book to be very enjoyable and educational, adding considerably to my previous knowledge of Mr Shannon's work and bringing me new knowledge of how Mr Shannon's work linked with the work of others to bring us our current "information age."

I wondered what aspect of information Gleick would be treating - knowledge and its communication and storage, the rise of information in physics as a conceptual inverse to entropy and its engagement in black hole theory, or even the information age.My complete satisfaction with Gleick's past work, especially the thoroughness of his notes and his eclectic exposition, compelled me to preorder this book. The Information is all of the above and more. He presents a history, including the fundamentals of language as, for example, employed for millennia by African drummers, then traverses the history of writing (even spelling), difference and analysis engines to the evolution of telegraphs and telephony. The theory then champions the work of Godel, Turing, Shannon, von Neumann and Wiener as information takes on a physical context and leaps into the age of digital logic. Gleick's notes became my list for texts to further read around the topic. Then comes the flood, the rise on the internet, Wiki and the cloud.The Information is a rewarding and enjoyable read and contains many of the charming minutiae that Gleick's research uncovers. As he listed the objectives of Russell and Whitehead's Principia Mathematica and its imminent demolition, Gleick describes the early days of the demolisher, Godel, attending smoky Viennese coffee houses and expounding logic. Highly recommended.

There are two milestones that shape the main theses in this book. The first is, naturally, Claude Shannon's formulation of his "Information Theory". Shannon is rightfully the main character of this historical saga (Gleick inserts biographical snippets of him and other main character throughout the book). The second pivotal moment comes with the intrusion of entropy in this theory and in the realization that information, as a physical entity, is also subjected to it.Gleick is a great writer and a pleasure to read. He presents his topic thematically, chronologically, and inserting biographical elements to shape something like an informational saga. This book was hard to get through but only because there was so many incredibly important ideas. I read this months ago and I am still thinking about it. The part I disliked? That there was almost no actual communications research presented. All (or all but a tiny bit) came from engineering or computer science. University communications departments have ceded the entirety of modern communications theory and practice to others. And the worst part is that they don't even care or seem aware of that fact. So... my review of the book? Read it. It is fascinating and one of the most important books to read if you want to get a good, basic overview of the ideas that will shape the next 50 years or more. If you are affiliated with any university department of communications you should be ashamed for a bit and then start fixing the last 50 years of irrelevancy this book clearly has exposed.

This is the 3rd in the Michael Daley, Rosie Fernandez series and the 3rd one that I... almost read. I started with book #1 then went to book #2. I became aware of something during book #2, that something was that the story line was very similar to book #1, just recast with a new set of characters, but I went ahead and finished, because Mr. Siegel is a decent writer (which is different than being a decent storyteller), thus the 2 stars. It was with hopes of a fresh story that I took the plunge into book #3 in the series. I got about 25% in and began to think, Oh oh, this story line seems very familiar. After another 50 to 75 pages my fears were confirmed: old wine, new bottle. In Michael Daley's and Rosie Fernandez's world, everyone wears either a white hat or a black hat. Rarely do the shed these for a hat bearing a shade of gray. (Something that courtroom/thriller writers could pass off 4 or 5 decades ago, but certainly not today.) Of course, our two protagonists, Michael and Rosie, a divorced couple turned law partners, wear the whitest of hats that almost never come off. Mr. Siegel at times tries to incorporate Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey as his formula of choice. Not a bad choice actually, as many writers use this formula to great success. The difference between those successful writers and Mr. Siegel is that they put enough meat on the bones in the form of plot and character development that the formula is aptly hidden. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Mr. Siegel, as he barely disguises the formula with a thin layer of skin. To sum up, at least through book #3 in the series it's clear that Mr. Siegel only has one story to tell. One that he retells at least 3 times. Maybe, although I have my doubts, consequent books in the series finds Sheldon Siegel's characters in fresh stories with a new and improved set of twists and turns that lead the reader down a new path to an unpredictable ending, however, he has received his last nickel from this reader.

This is book 3 in the Mike Daly and Rosie Fernandez legal thriller series and another excellent book. The author is an excellent writer and you just don't want to put the book down till you get to the end. This book had a few more twists in it with the crime hitting close to home when Rosie's niece Angelina is accused of murdering her husband. This murder affects the whole family as these other family members are somewhat involved and hiding the real story. This books as many story lines going thru it with Mike having an affair with a judge and Rosie's brother Tony being involved in some graft implications. These characters are very likeable and always want to do the right thing. Loved reading this series. Hope it continues on. You won't be disappointed in this series of books.

Not your typical whodunit! I am reading this series in order and I hope Siegel write many, many more books. Mike and Rosie are partners in a small, and I mean small, law firm in San Francisco. Their office is in a former martial arts gym, an old photo of Bruce Lee graces the wall. The two were married, but can't live together - but then they are often lovers. Siegel, himself is an attorney - but his writing style demonstrates his unique writing style. The book is full of clever and descriptive similes and metaphors - this adds to the book. This focus of this book is on Hollywood types - directors, actors, promoters, you name it. Also, Mikes has private comments with the readers - sort of like an aside in a play. These tell us what Mike is really thinking and are often humorous. I life in the San Francisco Bay Area and is setting is familiar.

Content of story is well presented but I seem to be noticing more and more foul language--unnecessary to the story. Captivating story, though, well thought out and well presented. Left me hanging, and guessing, right up until the end. More objectionable language than I prefer. The first book had very little of that, the second had more, and this one more. I'm into reading my fourth in this series now and appreciate the continued story line.

I loved the book but was listening/reading on Audible through the Immersion app. I was very confused by the major differences between what I was hearing and what I could read. Major name changes for instance Lady Gaga was changed to Madonna. Several other instances of name ad word changes. The 'f' bomb was added in the Audible but was not in the written. Also many sentences we either completely changed or missed and others were added. It didn't change my enjoyment of the book but it was a little confusing at the times I was following along with the words!! Am wondering why all the changes and differences. I have another book on Audible from this series and wondering if it will the same Other than that I love the characters. The ending wasn't a surprise but the plot kept me intrigued until the end. This is the 2nd book I have read from this author and will continue to read more.

This, the third in the Daley/Fernandez Legal Mysteries, is a very good read. This is categorized as a thriller, though I think it best described as a mystery. To me, the story is missing the elements to qualify it as a thriller. However, that doesn't diminish the quality of the writing, plot and character development or the reader's satisfaction in reading it. Siegel is a master at developing the plot of his stories. There are numerous characters who are possible perpetrators of the killing that the story centers around. And, of course, it is the job of Daley and Fernandez to find out who the real perpetrator really is. The reader is left guessing until the very end. This story is also enriched by the changing and growing relationship between Daley and Fernandez. Though ex husband and wife, they remain very close, devoted to each other and their child. And now Fernandez is facing a health crisis while trying to handle the murder case. All this makes the plot complex, and very satisfying. The final revelation of the murderer is somewhat surprising, troublesome, and yet kind of intriguing. And how Daley and Fernandez handle the revelation is also compeling. I think any reader would find this book a satisfying read.

I felt the author loves to talk about himself so much he couldn’t find enough listeners that would pay attention to him for weeks. So he wrote a book about an iconic figure so he could hold you hostage to hear himself write about himself. The last 30-40 pages were nothing about Ferguson but billion dollar silicon valley companies and how he has made billions off this. Please buy this book back

Sir Alex Ferguson managed a great football club as Manchester United, but it was he who made this team that great. The first thing that made him so successful was that he followed an advice that he should have been on the sidelines watching and supervising. In this way he was able to see the big picture. He was well aware that the system in a football club is not so complicated as in a high-tech company. Despite his spectacular accomplishments, he's too humble to say that he could be more successful.I find it funny that he thought swapping shirts were extravagance and told the players that they needed to pay from their pockets for the shirts they would swap. I think this character trait comes from his Scottish genes.This is not just a football book, but also a resource we can draw lessons about our own lives at the same time. The only thing I criticize in the book is the strained effort of the author to draw analogy between the principles and thoughts of Sir Alex and the successful firms in the Silicon Valley.

Sir Alex was relentless, smart, intuitive and build team after successful team restoring Manchester United to their historic glory and status. There are golden nuggets of experience and strategies contained within that are priceless. Fabulous read for the football fan or business man, anyone who wants to learn how Sir Alex built success and maintained such high standards year after year.

I enjoy this book tremendously. Not just because I'm a soccer junky but because it goes beyond success on the football pitch and addresses what it takes to be a good leader in any industry. This book is great for the soccer mad fan that wants some inside access to the dynasty of Manchester United. It's also fantastic for the person that wants to get more out of themselves and their life. I loved the football but my favorite chapter may be the epilogue comparing Sir Alex and European football to the cut throat world of high tech Silicon Valley. Enjoy!

Surprisingly easy to read. No fluff, this is solid information. Not flashy or full of pictures but lots of primary data to support. Surprisingly doesnt seem out of date considering. THe basics are known from long ago, diets come and go but digestion and metabolism remain much the same.

I bought this book for school. It was in great shape and for a great price.

In many cases, the author has included discussion of historically important nutritional deficiencies as well as more contemporary problems that can be controlled wiht appropriate nutritional intervention, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease . . . The layout of the text permits the integration of nutrition into a medical school curriculum. If first establishes biological structure and its relation to genetic expression. Next it presents a very systematic discussion of digestion and absorption . . . The chapter on lipids includes important consideration of phospholipids and sphingosine-based lipids, but emphasizes cholesterol, lipoproteins, and cardiovascular disease . . . Protein . . . is covered in greater detail than by most texts, clearly in an effort to provide good understanding of the concepts, basic and applied. . . Both the vitamins and minerals are presented in standard formats. However, the vitamins are presented in terms of their role in metabolism, rather than simply water soluble and then fat soluble vitamins . . . The following review, which appeared in the July 2000 issue of Journal of the American Dietetic Association, was written by Prof. Edith Lerner of Case Western Reserve University. Only part of the review is quoted: "The new edition of this textbook . . . includes added discussions of some current topics of interest, such as unsaturated fatty acids (trans versus cis) in the cardiovascular section and neural tube defects in the folate section. The book effectively integrates aspects of metabolism, nutrition, and interorgan physiology for advanced undergraduate students in dietetics, nutrition, or biological sciences. . . the chapters on energy metabolism and requirements are particularly comprehensive and provide key concepts in an integrative manner. . . an additional discussion of methodology appears in the 3-part appendix: animal experiments (eg, pair-feeding), molecular biology techniques (eg, cloning), and epidemiology studies that include a copy of Block's food frequency questionnaire, which has been used to determine human cancer risk. The following is from a review of the first edition of Nutritional Biochemistry, published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (1995). The review was written by Prof.R.Rucker, of U.C.Davis. "There are relatively few nutrition texts that focus on physiological chemistry, metabolism, and biochemistry at the intermediate to advanced levels. This book admirably fills this void . . . Brody has thoughtfully approached the writing of the text so that information is developed clearly yet never oversimplified or rendered superficial . . . an excellent description of the digestion of food components . . . an excellent job is done of noting how basic information is assembled to form more complex concepts . . . there is an excellent section on calculating respiratory quotients. . . . A virtue that is lost in some texts, but not in this one, is that the author does not engage in speculation when there is not sufficient supporting documentation . . . an excellent book." Am. J. Clin. Nutr. (1995) 61, 1175.

While this book on nutritional biochemistry was adequate when it came out in 1999, much has changed in seven years. Without an update of the way daily allowances are now determined, new findings in the area of molecular biology, etc. the potential buyer may be rewarded by waiting for the next edition. It is interesting to note that most of the reviews came from the author.

This is one of the best books I have ever read, for spcialists as well as lay readers. Wish all science books were written so clearly and comprehensively. Look forward very much to the third edition and prepared to reserve and pay for my copy as of now.Nabil Megalli, Cairo, Egypt
