I absolutely LOVED this book. I knew I had some tendencies towards perfectionism but this book explains in detail the signs and symptoms that I would have missed otherwise. It's such a gentle approach that I help me to understand myself in a deeper way. I instantly related to the personal examples and found the exercises very easy and though provoking. As a therapist, I have already recommended this book to several clients ( and friends ) for those struggling with high expectations and people pleasing behaviors. This is a must read for anyone seeking positive change from issues like low self-esteem, perfectionism, difficulty letting go, self-forgiveness, adult children of alcoholic issues and codependency. Such a wonderful contribution to our field! Thank you Sharon!
This is a wonderful book in workbook format. I found it to be very well written, and most importantly, accessible to the average person. You don't have to be a professional to understand it, although it is based on up-to-date research and the author's many years of experience as a psychotherapist. It is well organized and each chapter, with exercises, flows smoothly into the next. It gently expands your ideas about perfectionism and offers real-life examples that anyone can relate to. I'm just halfway through, but am excited to keep going. I feel grateful to Sharon Martin for giving us this resource!

I love this workbook! Sharon Martin covers everything from how perfectionism develops to strategies for self-compassion. Her step-by-step exercises allow the reader to go at their own pace when working through the chapters, or jump in to areas that might need particular attention. I've already given away one copy and will continue to recommend it to my clients who struggle with perfectionism and the anxiety it creates!
This workbook written by Therapist Sharon Martin, LCSW is extremely helpful in understanding the nuances of Perfectionism and how to work through the struggles many face being a perfectionist. What I like the most about this book is Sharon's ability to self disclose her own personal struggles with perfectionism to help the reader feel validated and understood. It defines perfectionism in a clear and easy way that any person, whether your a professional in the field, or just a person who wants to make changes, can understand. The chapters are well thought out and offer many exercises to work through that are very helpful in reaching the goals of the book. I have already recommended this book to clients, friends, and family members with positive response.
I love that Sharon clearly balanced real-life situations with all the research out there, especially because I'm a psychology professor and life coach. I found the question prompts very helpful for myself. My favorite chapter was the one about reflecting on your childhood and how that ties to your perfectionism. I'll be recommending this book to many clients!
