Love this envelope system! The envelopes are nice and thick and slide easily into a wallet or small purse. However, if I were to choose to fill out the check register like you are supposed to, I would be buying these every couple of weeks which completely defeats the purpose of the whole system, since it is to save money. What I do is I label each envelope and put my allotted amount of money in each one and I don't worry about recording it in the check register part. When the money is gone, it's gone. I suppose if I really wanted to know how I was spending in each category I could always put the receipts in the envelope and record it somewhere else later. So far, this system has worked great for us and we haven't gone over budget even once in the past 2 months - which is saying a lot for our family!
Dave Ramsey is changing our life, the envelope system is fantastic and works if you stay on it. This wallet envelope system is amazing and fits up to 18 bills before you have a problem fitting it. The only thing is that is is paper so the edges have started to fold up and the flap where it folds over is tearing where it joins.
If you are familiar with the Dave Ramsey program you are familiar with the envelope system. For me it works better than anything else to stay on track with budget. These envelopes are preferable to the others because they have more room to record details of what was purchased and where money came from. However, I can only do three stars because as others have noted, the material appears to be somewhat different and is not as sturdy as earlier envelope packs I have purchased before.
I don't like the fact that I have to pull the entire binder out of my wallet and flip through then unfold (open the flap) to remove the money. It seems to hold up really well, but I'd prefer enevolpes that have a tab on top to label them, and are open on top so you just flip through the tabs and pull the money out. I'm assuming these are made the way they are so you'll have extra tracking room and they'll last awhile, but I quickly grew tired of tracking on the enevolpes (reminded me of holding the line up while writing in a check register like we used to see happen frequently before debit cards replaced checks). So anyways, while they may work for others I am not a fan.
These are great, I just miss the plastic pouch that was in my FPU wallet system, and is not in this set. I kept all my loose change in that little pouch, and wish they had included one here. Keeping coins in my envelopes ruins them!
Ripped the first time I was putting money in it. Pretty depressing to spend money on it just for it to break before you even use it.
Looks like the original but it didn't come with the coin pouch.
If you use the cash envelope system this is the way to go.
